drivable to load onto your trailer. This car was purchased in Pauls Valley, OK in 1955, by Leroy Looney when he was 16 vears old. Leroy sold it to his father Coy Looney a few years later. It never really left Pauls Valley until around 2001, when Coy's grandson, Terry Looney purchased it at the family estate sale.

It has been in Davis ever since. Terry allowed us to purchase it and give our little museum a little more local history. We decided to clean it up, repair the floors, restore the interior, and instead of painting, clear-coat the exterior in order to preserve the natural worn patina. This Mercury was owned by a Ninety year old Gentleman who had owned it for over forty years.

It is almost totally original except where replacement parts or reconditioned parts were added as it became necessary. Tires are old and while they look great and hold air, they might border on a liability on a long road trip. I'll post some pictures but can provide more if needed or when I get more time to upgrade this posting.

The engine in the Century lineup for 1939 was Buick’s OHV straight-eight, displacing 320.2 cubic inches.

With five main bearings and mechanical valve lifters, the engine received its fuel via a Stromberg AAV26 carburetor. The engine in this Century was sourced from a 1948 Buick Roadmaster, whose engine specifications are the same as the 1939

Century’s, although output is a slightly higher 144 horsepower. the rebuild saw the engine receive new pistons, rocker arms, rocker shafts, pushrods, a new exhaust system, replacement wiring harness and a rebuilt fuel pump. the carburetor was rebuilt, new bearings and piston rings were fitted and the radiator re-cored.

The generator and starter motor were likewise rebuilt. The manual transmission and clutch plate were also rebuilt. The rear end was reportedly rebuilt with new ring and pinion gears. No issues are reported with gear changing, and no leaks are observed from the powertrain. The engine can be started without a key by turning a chrome handle on the steering column and stepping on the starter switch. The engine bay appears stock and clean, with what appears to be recently installed ignition wires.

there’s no smoke on startup. She notes that you just pump the accelerator a few times, crank the engine a bit, then let it sit 10 seconds and it starts right up. The small-block V-8 routes power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, in the popular “four-on-the-floor” configuration. the transmission works fine and shifts properly.

The Toyota four-cylinder engine installed in this rig in 1967 was pulled and replaced by a modified Chevrolet 350-cu.

in. small-block V-8 that was sourced from a 1990 Chevrolet C-1500 truck. The engine has undergone a full mechanical rebuild. Originally fed by General Motors throttle-body fuel injection, the engine now sports an aftermarket

system made by AFI that mirrors the original factory components. An AFI computer that manages the system is now located in the glove compartment. The engine is said to start and idle easily without smoke. A heavy-duty Ron Davis aluminum radiator has been installed, with a cooling fan from a Ford Taurus and a GM water pump.

The FJ40 utilizes a four-speed H42 automatic transmission sourced from a 1970s FJ40, along with a Toyota vacuum-shifted transfer case; both are said to function properly without issues. No leaks from the powertrain are reported. The engine bay boasts finned rocker covers and a matching performance air cleaner, and is impressively clean.

in. OHV V-8. With a Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor and a compression ratio of 10.0:1, the engine was rated by the manufacturer at 300 horsepower when new. both the original engine and Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission were rebuilt as part of the car’s

restoration. no functional issues with either nor any powertrain leaks. the custom dual exhaust was added to enhance performance. The engine bay appears to be generally clean. The paint on this Catalina is said to be 10 years old and in “excellent” condition, with no swirls.

The chrome presents as complete and in good, undamaged condition. the seat facings, interior door panels, and carpeting are all new to the car, with no cracks or tears to the upholstery, and no worn spots in the carpet. The painted steel dashboard presents very strongly and appears to be missing none of its trim.

is an aftermarket addition. a recent tune-up and new battery and says the engine starts easily and runs with no smoke, leaks or weeps evident. This car is equipped with the Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission, which is sometimes described as a two-speed, as it starts off in second gear.

the transmission shifts smoothly and does not leak. The original Thunderbird design balanced European inspiration with American charisma while conveying a strong Ford family resemblance. The ’57 facelift added canted tailfins and a larger front bumper/grille combination. The restyle also extended the deck lid to make room for the spare tire, which had been mounted on the bumper for ’56.

This ’57 was reportedly repainted 12 years ago, with a color change from white to red for a more striking appearance. This 1957 T-bird is equipped with a folding cloth convertible top, which is in like-new condition and operating properly.

Glass is described as in good condition, with no scratches or cracks. Windows seals are likewise indicated in good condition, with no leaks.
