The BMW OEM style finned deep aluminum engine oil pan now carries Valvoline VR-1 SAE 40 racing oil.
After disassembly, degreasing and bead blasting, the magneto was serviced with a remagnetized rotor, new Emerald Island ignition coil, ignition points and condenser. Replacement Kolbenschmidt pistons were sourced and balanced and the semi-gloss
black powdercoated cylinders bored/honed to fit. The bead blasted þâ sparkplug reach LK cylinder heads underwent rebuild as necessary. German chrome exhaust headers are installed with a stainless steel crossover tube and unseamed German chrome mufflers.
In order to improve engine acceleration/deceleration and thereby improve shifting, a Barrington Motor Works aluminum flywheel was installed along with a sprung type 9mm clutch friction disc. New Eurobars were installed. After servicing and refinishing the hand controls and switches, they were installed with new control cables. The hand control levers were professionally polished. Bar end adapters fabricated by Joe Groeger were installed
and permitted the installation together of Albert bar end mirrors as well as Hella bar end signals. New Magura hand grips completed the handlebar work. The transmission underwent a complete rebuild including all new FAG bearings as well as new seals and rear cover gasket.
The kickstart and foot shift levers were professionally polished. The transmission was filled to spec with Brad Penn GL-4 SAE 80/90 gear oil. The vented 25/8 final drive was rebuilt with all new FAG and INA bearings, new seals and gasket. Like the transmission, the swingarm and final drive were filled to spec with Brad Penn GL-4 SAE 80/90 gear oil. After rebuilding the wheel hubs with correctly shimmed Timken 30304 tapered
roller bearings and modern lip seals the high shoulder aluminum Weinmann rims were straightened and polished and then laced and trued to the hubs with stainless steel spokes by Buchanan Spoke and Rim.
New Heidenau 3.50â x 18â K34 tires are installed with Heidenau natural rubber inner tubes and Tesi brand rim tape after which the tire and wheel assemblies were balanced. A new harness was installed as was a 35W/35W H4 headlight assembly and LED tail light. The VDO 1.2 speedometer, correct for the 25/8 final drive, was rebuilt and retains both the original pre-remanufacture odometer and post-remanufacture trip odometer check out/break-in riding mileage readings.
The larger 6.5 gallon/24.6 liter âSport Tank â is installed and fitted with a new Karcoma petbird in lieu of an earlier somewhat fussy Everbest petbird. New fabric covered fuel lines are installed with high flow in-line pancake fuel filters. The Bing 1/26/91 and 1/26/92 carburetors were cleaned ultrasonically and rebuilt using Bench Mark Works plastic floats. Barrington Motor Works vacuum fittings were installed to facilitate owner carburetor synchronization. All internal parts were cleaned, evaluated and replaced as needed. A new air filter is installed in the refinished chokeless air cleaner.
Because Barrington Motor Works builds reduced maintenance rideable restorations while honoring the past designers and constructors of these vintage motorcycles, high quality stainless steel fasteners with Nylon locking nuts, stainless steel pushrod tubes, stainless steel spokes, and high quality stainless steel axles are fitted. Where necessary and appropriate, certain fasteners and other parts were replated in cadmium. The steering head bearings and all swingarm bearings and seals were replaced after confirming that the frame, forks, and both swingarms were not bent.
The frame and other related heavy parts have been professionally powdercoated in 80% gloss custom mixed Dover White matching the Dover White repainted sheetmetal. The sheetmetal has been professionally hand striped. An original BMW OEM hydraulic steering damper was serviced, refinished and installed. An OEM BMW sidestand is installed. Replacement shock eye silent blocks are installed front and rear and all four shock inserts are new. The rear fender is fitted with a luggage rack as well as its replated original iconic âR69Sâ emblem.

Custom built, 1966 750cc Norton Atlas caf é racer.
I am the second owner. I have owned and ridden this classic for 8 years, I ride it mostly on weekend rides ( about 1300 miles since purchased) and it always brings a smile to my face. It has always been stored indoors, only seen dry weather and has never to my knowledge been dropped. No expense
was spared in creating a beautiful caf é racer typical of the late 60âs/early 70âs; the detailing is superb. This bike uses real original caf é parts, not reproductions. Slimline featherbed frame; alloy Real âLyta â short circuit tank; polished alloy oil tank; frame, swing arm, primary cover, etc.
powder coated; alloy parts are all polished; Commando forks; hard chromed stanchions; triple clamps machined from aircraft Dural (aluminum); Akront stainless, flanged wheels; stainless spokes; lightened hubs; rare, magnesium racing Lockheed front brake and master cyl. with drilled front disk; all fasteners are stainless steel; stainless fenders. Engine dynamically balanced and
head flowed; lightened and polished valve gear; genuine Dunstall camshaft; 850 oil pump with modified flow to head and spin-on filter modification; Superblend bearings; magneto ignition; new Amal 930 Concentric carbs (installed by Brian Slark); g âbox also with Superblend bearings and all new gears and bushes; chain-driven Barnett clutch.
Many more features. As with all pre-Commando, primary chain Nortons, weeps some oil out of the primary case, but is otherwise oil tight. Starts first kick (usually), handles and stops as you would expect from a featherbed frame/disk brake classic. Acceleration from 4,500 rpm is exhilarating. This is a bike you can ride and enjoy!
