The bike was in great shape.

I painted the red and black parts on it, the chrome was in good condition. I plated the rims. the rest was original and in good shape. I replaced the muffler because it was missing. I also had the seat redone. I had all of the hardware cad plated, the spokes, nuts, bolts on the motor and the frame. the carburetor

was refurbished and all of the aluminum was polished. the motor was gone over. all the parts are nos from doctor D. all the bearings, gaskets, piston and rings, seals, points, and condener are new. it has new cables, and battery.

The bike can be disconnected from the sidecar with four bolts. The sidecar is heavy duty as is the mounting hardware, it looks great hooked up to this classic motorcycle.

I added a steering stabilizer like all the Harley-Davidson trikes have and it works fantastic for a smooth ride, this bike can be a daily driver. The bike is ready to ride anywhere. The bike is turn key. Clean title.

At first inspection, I thought this to be an original paint survivor which it is not. The repaint looks to be a very early factory repaint, but unknown for sure. This 74ci. beauty is a very good running machine and shows only

30,600 miles on the odometer. Some custom modifications have been added to the bike including Superior style upsweep mufflers, SS carburetor and a boat load of running lights with full fender and saddlebag bumper guards. A must have for any collection or for the person that wants to own and ride an unmolested survivor.

The motorcycle has been modified with a 1948 74-cubic inch engine.

The engine was rebuilt in California. New leather saddlebags surround the bike and both bags have a finely handcrafted custom Indian logo worked into the top of each saddlebag flap. The seat is also newly handcrafted leather with period tassels. Custom chrome finishes are adorned

sparingly throughout the build including front suspension, wheels and exhaust. Built from original and some NOS parts, this machine has been in storage for the past 25 years. MILEAGTrue miles are unknown. 18 miles are shown on the non-working odometer. PAINTPaint is correct Indian red/black two-tone and was applied with care in California.

There are two paint blisters about the size of a dime on the side of front fender. Both front and rear fenders are pinstriped in gold colored ¼â€œ tape. SHEET METALOriginal Indian sheet metal in excellent condition with no road dings. CHROMEAll chrome work was completed by S/S Chrome in Arcata, California. Front suspension, exhaust pipes, and some

body parts are chromed. Some small chrome blistering has occurred on the top leaf spring of front suspension. All other chrome work is in excellent condition.

MECHANICALThis motorcycle is not numbers matching. The engine is a 1948 74-cubic inch rebuilt in, California. The engine case is stamped CDH 5225B. The engine appears to be a new rebuild that has rarely been started. The engine has been correctly prepared before starting after having been in storage for the past 20 plus years. Time for this engine to be correctly and carefully broken in to enjoy a very long life. Safe break in procedures are recommended. WHEELS TIRESRims are chrome with chrome spokes. Tires are from the 90’s.

Even though they are new tires with virtually no miles, they appear to have a very small amount of sidewall cracking due to age and storage.

I'm selling my 1940 Indian Sport Scout Motorcycle.

It is fairly complete restoration project with a real nice frame, fenders, front fork, and handlebar assembly. These bikes have a 750cc (45 cubic inch) flathead v-twin motor that has good power to weight ratio and is fun to ride. The open fendered early post war Indians are highly collectible

and are a work of art. The frame is very clean and straight. Both shocks are present and complete. The frame has a very legible factory stamped VIN, making it a mid year frame. This serial number was part of a batch of Sport Scouts sold to the US Army. All holes are tight and have good threads.

Note that this bike should have skirted fenders, but I chose to use the 1937 - 39 open skirt fenders instead because I think they look better (also I have a 1940 skirted fender scout, and the wheels are a big pain to remove or install with the skirts). The gas tanks, rear fender, and front fender are brand new pieces from The Iron Horse Corral. The chain guard front and rear pieces are from a military

640 scout. The seat is an excellent recover from Heather's Leathers using a high quality black fine grain leather. The crankcases have excellent very early factory stamped numbers but the numbers don't match the frame.

Included are both 1940 45" cylinders, a set of factory 45" rods with " Z" metal flywheels, and both aluminum heads. The heads have a few bent and broken fins, but overall the motor parts are in excellent condition. Also included are an excellent set of 45" cams, four NOS valve guides, and a complete set of cam followers. The cam cover is an NOS piece. The GAS-4166 Autolite generator has been rebuilt by Indian Frank. The distributor is an NOS Autolite

with no wear. The transmission is an NOS piece with absolutely no wear on the gear teeth or main shaft.

The carburetor is a Linkert 641 with great threads and no damage to the bronze body. The oil pump has been cleaned and rebuilt. The Motolamp headlight is original, but has been converted to a sealed beam light. The wiring harness is brand new. The rear tail light is brand new. The ignition switch is brand new. The handlebars are nice and straight. The horn is an NOS Sparton 6 volt horn. Overall the bike has great patina and potential.
